The 45thGowardhanDass Declamation Contest was held at Springdales School, Pusa Road on Thursday, 21st of April 2011. Participants from fifteen schools from in and outside of Delhi spoke on pertinent topics ranging from ‘Wikileaks – the new whistle blower in town’, ‘BinayakSen – the state versus individual’ to ‘Anna Hazare – creation of the media’.
The occasion was graced by Dr. Rajni Kumar, Chairperson and Founder Principal and members of the Management Board, teachers and students of prestigious schools of Delhi.
In her opening address the Principal, Mrs. AmeetaMullaWattal said “It is the young that confront the world with a spirit of daring that is tempered by idealism and humanism. The contest is not just about display of language skills, but also about a genuine concern and sensitivity to the world and its problems.
The event was chaired by Mr. AnupBhambani – an old Springdalian from the 1984 batch. The judges were Dr. RudrashishChakraborty, Associate Professor of English – Kirorimal College, University of Delhi, Mr. NirmalayaSamanta, Assisstant Professor of English at University of Delhi and Prof. Chandrachur Singh, Department of Political Science, Hindu College, University of Delhi.
The prestigious GowardhanDass Memorial Trophy was bagged by Maharaja SawaiMansinghVidyalaya, Jaipur while the Anil Dass Trophy for the second best team was awarded to Springdales School, Dhaulakuan. As a policy, the host school did not compete for the trophy.
